“ | Isn't it lovely, all alone. | ” |
– lovely, Billie Eilish and Khalid |
"lovely" (originally Gothgirl) is a song by Billie Eilish and Khalid that was included on the soundtrack for the second season of 13 Reasons Why. It was released on April 19th, 2018 after several previews and lots of speculation. It was later featured on the expanded and Japanese deluxe versions of her debut extended play (EP), dont smile at me.
The full demo leaked on March 17th, 2024 on Leaked.CX[2].
Theme[]
Billie talked about the song in an interview stating, "Me and my brother hung out with Khalid in our house and it was literally just us hanging out as friends and we ended up writing a song." The song is called "lovely" in a sarcastic manner as the song is actually “freaking depressing"; it is about a depressive state of mind coming back after one is sure it is gone and taking time to wallow in sadness.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1: Billie Eilish & Khalid]
Thought I found a way
Thought I found a way out (found)
But you never go away (never go away)
So I guess I gotta stay now
[Pre-Chorus: Billie Eilish & Khalid]
Oh, I hope some day I'll make it out of here
Even if it takes all night or a hundred years
Need a place to hide, but I can't find one near
Wanna feel alive, outside I can't fight my fear
[Chorus: Billie Eilish & Khalid]
Isn't it lovely, all alone
Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin to bone
Hello, welcome home
[Verse 2: Khalid & Billie Eilish]
Walking out of town
Looking for a better place (looking for a better place)
Something's on my mind
Always in my head space
[Pre-Chorus: Billie Eilish & Khalid]
But I know someday I'll make it out of here
Even if it takes all night or a hundred years
Need a place to hide, but I can't find one near
Wanna feel alive outside I can't fight my fear
[Chorus: Billie Eilish & Khalid]
Isn't it lovely, all alone
Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin to bone
Hello, welcome home
[Outro: Khalid & Billie Eilish]
Woah, yeah
Yeah, ah
Woah, woah
Hello, welcome home
[Intro: Khalid]
Mm, ah, oh
Mm, oh, oh
[Verse 1: Khalid & Billie Eilish]
I thought I found a way
I thought I found a way out
But you never go away
So I guess I gotta stay now
[Pre-Chorus 1: Khalid & Billie Eilish]
But, I hope some day I'll make it out of here
Even if it takes all night or a hundred years
Even when I die, I'll fight against myself
Just to feel alive, inside, I still need your well
[Chorus: Khalid & Billie Eilish]
Isn't it lovely, all alone?
Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin to bone
Hello, welcome home
[Verse 2: Khalid & Billie Eilish]
Walking out of time
Looking for a better place
Something's in my mind
Always in my head space
[Pre-Chorus 2: Khalid & Billie Eilish]
But, I know if I don't make it out of here
Waste away my life, I'll drown in my own tears
Need a place to hide, but I can't find one near
Wanna feel alive, outside, I can't fight my fear
[Chorus: Khalid & Billie Eilish]
Isn't it lovely, all alone?
Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin to bone
Hello, welcome home
[Outro: Khalid]
No, mm, oh
Woah, oh, oh
Isn't it lovely, all alone?
