"Male Fantasy" is the sixteenth and final track by Billie Eilish on her second studio album Happier Than Ever.

Theme[]

Male Fantasy tells the story of Billie's experience post-breakup, how to deal with the feeling of heartbreak, hopelessness and phantom love. After the breakup, Billie, like most people trying to escape depressive feelings, turns to pornography. After this, although, she claims that she 'doesn't like the way the actress looks at her' and how they'd 'never be that satisfied' in actuality. With the overanalyzation and realization of these falsely portrayed emotions, Billie says "I'm going back to therapy". The chorus of the song reveals Billie's feelings over the situation, she exclaims that she knows she doesn't love her ex-lover but she still has feelings over him.

Spotify Synopsis[]

Male Fantasy is really a hopeless realization and a horrible thing. It’s terrible to feel something that you don’t want to feel. Happier Than Ever was actually gonna close the album and then we wrote Male Fantasy and it actually felt better to close it with that. Not ending on a angry note, I think, was important ‘cause nothing should end on a bad note, I feel like.

Synesthetic Perception[]

#bcd5e5
Male Fantasy is perceived to be a Powder Blue in Billie's synesthesia.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Home alone, tryin' not to eat
Distract myself with pornography
I hate the way she looks at me
I can't stand the dialogue, she would never be
That satisfied, it's a male fantasy
I'm goin' back to therapy

[Chorus]
'Cause I loved you then
And I love you now and I don't know how
Guess it's hard to know
When nobody else comes around
If I'm getting over you
Or just pretending to
Be alright, convince myself I hate you

[Interlude]
(Want me to sing in here?)

[Verse 2]
I got a call from a girl I used to know
We were inseparable years ago
Thought we'd get along but it wasn't so
And it's all I think about when I'm behind the wheel
I worry this is how I'm always gonna feel
But nothing lasts, I know the deal

[Chorus]
But I loved you then
And I love you now and I don't know how
Guess it's hard to know
When nobody else comes around
If I'm getting over you
Or just pretending to
Be alright, convince myself I hate you

[Outro]
Can't get over you
No matter what I do
I know I should but I could never hate you
