"Fingers Crossed" is a single by Billie Eilish. It was exclusively released on September 14, 2015[1] on her SoundCloud account[2].

Background[]

In 2015, the siblings released two songs on SoundCloud, titled "sHE'S brOKen" and "Fingers Crossed". "We had no intention for them," said Eilish later, saying that the songs were released "for fun and for our friends to listen to". "Fingers Crossed" was the second song to be released on her official account.

Eilish has previously stated in an interview that this was the first song that she'd ever written. Being home-schooled, it was written for a songwriting class that her mother would teach. Her assignment was to write down lines that she thought were good hooks, titles, or names while watching a movie or TV show.[3]

Theme[]

The song was written about a zombie apocalypse, inspired by The Walking Dead, which was Eilish's favorite show at the time. Although not intentional, the song came out as a love song.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
In the end, when they're all gone
When the world is silent and the days are long
Just you and I, we'll be alive
We made it on our own

[Chorus]
'Cause everybody makes it 'till they don't
And everybody wants to think they won't
'Cause everybody makes it 'till they don't
And everybody seems to think they won't, they won't, they won't, they won't

[Verse 2]
Baby, I'm still alive but my heart is beating slow
Baby, tell me I gotta know
Are you okay? You seem too far gone
Infected, standing there all alone

[Chorus]
'Cause everybody makes it 'till they don't
And everybody wants to think they won't
And everybody makes it 'till they don't
And everybody seems to think they won't, they won't, they won't, they won't

[Post-Chorus]
The best of me, the best of me is you
The best of me, the best of me was you

[Outro]
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Ladum, badum, mmmm

Trivia[]

  • Eilish later commented under the Soundcloud release, several years after its release, stating she now thought it was bad.
