WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? is the full-length debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish. It was released on March 29, 2019 through Interscope Records.
Background[]
The album began to be written in May 2017, with the track "listen before i go" although it was only finished years later, in the spring of 2018. Eilish wanted an album that was a mix of genres and something "crazy but also depressing".[1]
The album was recorded in his brother Finneas' small studio room. According to them, this decision was made due to the intimate and homely nature of the room, in addition to the lack of natural light in professional studios and its high cost of use.[2][3]
On March 20, 2018, Eilish confirmed that she was working on an album and announced that it would probably be finished by the end of the same year.[4] In July 2018, Eilish announced the album's release date in an interview with BBC Radio.[5]
The first official single from the album- "you should see me in a crown"- was released on July 18, 2018 after being premiered on BBC Radio 1 with Annie Mac.
The pre-order was made available on January 30, 2019, alongside the release of its third single.

Trivia[]
- Finneas posted the album title on his Instagram story at the beginning of December.
- Eilish had previously teased the album title on her Instagram story in August 2018.[11]
- The album was finished on December 27, 2018.[12][13]
- According to Finneas, the album was originally meant to be released in 2018.[14] However, it was delayed due to being unfinished.
- In conversation with Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1, Eilish stated that she used common fears and phobias, such as needles and spiders, as inspiration for the album.
- Eilish confirmed with an interview with PopBuzz[15] that the last three tracks of the standard edition of the album are a sentence that she had planned since the beginning of the album's overall production.
- The song "i don't know, i just wish i wasn't breathing" was supposed be listed before "listen before i go" in the tracklisting, however, Eilish never finished writing it.
- Eilish posted a snippet of a new song on her Snapchat at some point and later confirmed it to be on the album.[16][17] This snippet was speculated to be titled "Mad", however, this was proven false when the tracklist was revealed via Apple Music on January 30th, 2019.
- The song 8 was originally titled "See Through".
- It was also previously called "7", as it used to be the seventh song on the tracklist, due to "!!!!!!!" being a last minute addition.
- The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, becoming her first top ten, first number one, and highest charting album.
- The same week, "bad guy" debuted at number seven.
- "!!!!!!!" is the shortest track on the album, and Eilish's discography, while "I love you" is the longest.
- "goodbye" references every song on the album in its lyrics, this similar to BLUE.
- This is Eilish's only non-explicit work.
